Palo Alto Networks boosted its security game at its Ignite 2017 event in Vancouver, Canada, announcing new products, partnerships and investments. The changes build on a significant update the company rolled out to its platform earlier this year, with new features across its full technology set with the PAN-OS 8.0 update.

Let’s take a look at five things Palo Alto Networks announced at the event.

Palo Alto Networks Application Framework

Similar in concept to frameworks provided by companies such as Amazon Web Services and Salesforce, Palo Alto Networks Application Framework will allow a security provider to build cloud-based applications over the top of the platform. Palo Alto Networks will offercloud APIs, software and infrastructure, as well as threat intelligence and data stores. The framework will allow vendors (including competitors) and partners to build on and enhance the Palo Alto Networks platform, bringing new subscription applications designed to address security needs.

Palo Alto Networks Venture Fund

To back up the launch of its Application Framework, Palo Alto Networks also unveiled the Palo Alto Networks Venture Fund. In conjunction with Greylock Partners and Sequoia Capital, the $20 million fund will focus on early stage, seed stage and small start-ups planning to build applications on the company’s Application Framework. The venture capital is not only open to ISVs and application developers, but also to partners and customers as well.

GlobalProtect Cloud Service

Another service unveiled was the Global Protect cloud service. By announcing, Palo Alto is allowing partners and clients to utilise the service’s traffic visibility, threat prevention and policy enforcement, as well as Wild Fire platform and other security platforms to mobile users and remote offices, all on the cloud. Palo Alto Networks will manage the multi-tenant, cloud-based infrastructure, and partners and customers can buy into the service according to their bandwidth requirements.

Palo Alto Networks Logging Service

Focused on the back end of the Application Framework, the new Palo Alto Networks Logging Service collects logs and network data into one centralised location, all at a very high rate of transfer.Managed by Palo Alto Networks, the Logging Service integrates with their Panorama centralised management platform for configuration, administration and reporting services.

Partnership With Girl Scouts Of The USA

Looking beyond their product portfolio, Palo Alto Networks has sought to help solve cybersecurity issues for future generations. The security company announced an encompassing partnership with the Girl Scouts of the USA to establish an all-new Girl Scout Cybersecurity badge. Designed to help encourage girls to learn cybersecurity skills. These skills range from online digital safety to technicalexpertise that could prepare these girls for a potential career in cybersecurity. Palo Alto Networks CEO Mark McLaughlin said that the goal of the program is to introduce more women to cyber security skills at an early age, hoping for more of them to be a part of the industry in the future.
